Dupure International Filter Scam

If you are a customer of Dupure International, formally known as Rayne of Houston don't fall victim to Dupure Internationals Filter Replacement Scam if you have not already been scammed.
Dupure International is telling customers that have the original Rayne Pure and Rayne Clear reverse osmosis system purchased through Rayne of Houston that they no longer manufacture the filters for there system and try to sell you an upgraded Dupure Pure Blue Reverses osmosis. The reason that they tell you this is that they know with the Rayne Pure and Rayne Clear the customer is able to find the filters and get them installed or changed by their competitors at a cheaper price so they sell you the upgraded reverse osmosis with proprietary filters that you can not purchase anywhere else but Dupure. which is very costly even if you only purchase the filters from them and do the filter change yourself. You can get another company to change these filters, all that needs to be done is convert the caps that the filters screw onto. This retrofit filter kit includes the filters and can be done at a cheaper price then Dupure International original filter change. Contact us for this service.

Nice try Chris. It's always nice to see a person we trained go out and try to start a business. It's especially nice when he goes out and trys to make it on his own instead of misrepresenting the truth about the company he used to work for.

BTW why don't you disclose that you are a competitor instead of some concerned citizen?

Here is some simple business advice:
If you are going to accuse someone of a scam, make sure your not a SCAM yourself. The pictures of the equipment on your website are COPYWRITED to DuPure. Stealing artwork hardly shows integrity. The 7000 brochure, you can stop using it now, ya it's copywrited. Something tells me that KDF has not authorized you to use their web page because it is COPYWRITED also. But you saw fit to change their page WITHOUT their permission and add your phone number. NICE touch!

Oh BTW we DO sell the replacement filters for the Rayne systems for customer that don't want to upgrade, you know that, get it right Chris.

So, DP, you are telling me that the system I got installed (at about half the price of the exact system quoted from Rayne) is not what it is purported to be? I left messages for Rayne's representatives (emails and telephone) numerous times over a 2 week period without response. I had seen the system at a neighbor's house and even talked to a representative one time when he knocked on my door.
I stumbled across Premiere and he had the exact same system at half the price.
So, he must be doing something right. If he has a problem with the images on the site, that is between you and him.

I can't help but laugh. DuPure, I am not trying anything, I am just letting consumers know the truth. This is things that your own employees are telling your customers and I have actually been told this to me by several of your customers that called me to change their filters, I even know a couple of your service techs. (That no longer work for you) that told me this and one of them told me that they quit because of the pressure that you put on them to go into the house and lie to customers about competitors. You are destroying your own company, don't you know that customers talk to each other in the neighborhood and word gets around fast on what you are doing? Maybe I should post on here all the threatening emails that you have sent to your competition for all to see and judge for themselves. As for the brochures you better check again before you make anymore false accusations, and KDF is free for any dealer to purchase and make available to the consumer. And let's get another thing straight, I was never an employee of DuPure. I was with Rayne of Houston from the time they open there doors in Houston 9.5 years ago up until the time you stole the company right out from the original owners a little over a year ago. You guys walked into a business not knowing a thing about water treatment our equipment, the only reason that you have the equipment and the know how to sell it and where to get it is because we showed you. Then you take that, raise the prices on the equipment and have sales people going into potential customer houses and telling them that they own the company (Melissa) and totally misrepresenting themselves, the company (Dupure) and your competitors. If your customers will actually do some checking right now they will find you will go into a lower income neighborhood and sell the exact same package for around a thousand dollars less then you sell to a higher income neighborhood for a thousand dollars more. Where is the fairness in that? And yes, I started my own business, what's the problem with that? I am saving my customers money on the exact same equipment; you pray on your customer's stupidity with over priced equipment and hope that they will believe (a total stranger) everything that you tell them about your competitors, I on the other hand am trying to build a reputable business while at the same time saving them money. Also thanks for letting us know that you can get the filters; I will email that over to the customers you told that you couldn't so they would purchased the upgrade, they will be happy to know that; oh, I take that back, they probably won't. So, by that note I am just going to let you know that I am not going anywhere; and am going to continue saving my customers money on any water treatment need they may have.

Oh, one more thing. You started of with your comments with a big lie, you said trained me...come DP, I was in this buisness years before you even knew what a water treatment system ever was, I do remember given some of your guys a lot of training though before my departure, I was and still am the only person that knew this equipment better then anyone, well your lost. Oh, by the way, one of you installers called me just yesterday and left a message for me to call him back and walk him through how to put the KDF media gaurd on the Water softener the CORRECT way. Good Luck DuPure customers.

wow! dupure and raine have a loooong agenda for years but it is useless to comment on any two. It would be like talking about sports, religion or mac vs windows. My suggestion is to do research before commiting to any system and do not rely on what they say but in what you confirm. Good luck!

JULY 2011 DUPURE WATER FILTERS are still scamming people 3.5 years later.

Exactly what the blog owner stated happened to me.

I found the filters cheaper simply by "googling".

Honesty and Integrity means a lot in business and these are fundamental values that will destroy Dupure.

Just wait and see.

Where do we buy the filters cheaper the what dupure sells. they scammed with the the first installation BUT I wont let it happen again. The unit still does not function properly and the refuse to come out and look at it... THEY are really NOT fair to there consumers!! after paying $5,000. and being told I have a lifetime warranty they SUCK.

Please tell me if there is a company that does free estimates for the system and sells replacement filters, I lost my job and need to get it fixed at a reasonable price, not what they consider there pricing.

Yes they are indeed a SCAM. Contact them and ask about their water system and its filter repalcement cost, they will not answer you directly because they are SCAM.

TOTAL Scam!!
I found out about their outrageous filter prices, and the monopoly they have locked me into.
WTF. I called them on it, and they didn't care at all. They just said they wanted to make money...
I called around, and found out that one can replace the filter heads -the part that the filter screws into- for $10 a piece.
After that, standard filters fit.

These people should be put out of business!!

Anyone who reads this should slam them online.
I also filed a complaint with the BBB.

Can someone post more details about the conversion to use standard filters? What are the filter heads that I would need to get? What kind of filters can be used after the new heads are on?

I hate dupure! Please Help me find someone in Houston who can fix my 5000 dollar water filter system I bought 2 years ago from Dupure. I hate the customer service. They have no idea what they are doing and my water is completely hard. I also have no pressure!

Thors_Hammer said...

I just looked up the number on the filters online, and it brought up several online dealers.
They all sell the same exact filter with the "standard" thread.
When you call them, they'll tell you you need the heads to go with it.
The filters they use are manufactured by omnipure. After speaking to them, they informed me that they infact make the same filter as the one we can only buy from dupure with the exact same parts, but the ones they make for dupure has a different thread, and they are under agreement to only sell them to dupre...
Everybody else sell these filters for aprox. $15.
Check online people. look at your filter and type in the model number. Call them and ask for advice.
They are all more than happy to help you out to easily modify your system to accept standard filters.

HELP END THE SCAM!!!

I try to look online before I buy but I also know that everyone complains and no one ever compliments a company. My builder is Trendmaker homes so I had no choice but to trust them. The reviews I have read on here are very off base. I didn't buy the water softener but the salesman was very upfront about filter cost. My fridge filter cost me 42.00 at lowes, that is a scam. I told the sales guy about the bad reviews on line. He informed those reviews were done by past disgruntled employees. I went back and read the reviews and he so was right. Beaware when you reading this stuff and judge who is really writing in before you believe it.

So easy to say, " disgruntled employees", as if that cleared everything up.
I have been in the water treatment business for 35 years have had a couple dozen employees in that time.
Not a single one of them is disgruntled. we had good relationships because we ran a respectful respectable operation.
However, when a company is into sleazy sales tactics, abusive pricing and downright dishonesty yes it's common for most of the employees to be disgruntled.
Employees are people too.

I'm not a disgruntled former employee. I'm just a disgruntled water sftener owner. I purchased it from Rayne in 2004. When DuPure took over in 2006, the former Rayne employees told us they simply changed their name to DuPure. DuPure has been servicing my unit since then. Today, however, after the resin went bad for the 3rd time, they told me the seals are bad in the valve controller. They said the valve unit is sealed and cannot be serviced. BS! The seals are replaceable, but they can't do it because they aren't authorized to get the parts. Or maybe DP would simply prefer to sell me a whole new contol head for $900. It's a complete scam...and I'm referring to both DP and the original Rayne. Tomorrow I'll find out if the same applies to the current Rayne dealer in Houston. If they won't work with me, Sears, here I come. I could afford to buy several of theirs for the price of one from these scam artists.

A little background, I used to be in sales for a deceptive company that would basically sell you junk by falsely advertising their product to have cutting edge features (which it didn't). They gave us printed laminated sheets for presentations and everything, just like the Dupure salespeople.

So I just had a new house built and had the Dupure presentation last night. As soon as she walked in and I saw her sales kit, I kind of knew what was going on. The saleperson was as nice as could be, but everything she said just sounded like a stretch of the truth or just trying to get into my head and make me afraid of my water. If you've ever seen a Kirby vaccum demonstration, this is basically the same thing.

At the very end they try to get you to sign a contract where you will automatically have new filters delivered every six months and charge you $40. They don't make this very clear, I had to have the tech explain in detail what was going to happen if I signed there.
I didn't buy anything extra. I watched the tech perform all the little chemistry experiments trying to scare us into thinking our water is toxic sludge. They also don't give any real prices. For the whole house filtration system, we were quoted "$119/month for about four years for most people". Could not get a total price or how long exactly "about four years" or what "most people" is.

I'd stay away from this company.

We purchased our total system, reverse osmosis under every sink, water softener, all the different equipment they sell 18 months ago. It is crap. We live in the country and have a well so we bought the top of the line system that even included the carbon filter. Come to find out 18 months later, you can not have the carbon filter with well water as it creates bacteria and your water will be contaminated. The last service guy out 1 week ago said our water was contaminated and the system is not working AT ALL. They are trying to tell us they have cancelled our warranty because we disconnected the unit a year ago to be put in a new well house. We were told at the time they do not move the system so we hired a licensed plumber do it, now they say we should have asked someone else in the company to have it done... seriously? We tried to get them to move the system, were told they do not do that and now we have no warranty.... just a 5000.00 piece of crap that does nothing

My experience with Dupure has been very pleasant. I installed my water filtration system in Aug 2012. When I go out of town I notice a big difference with my skin. I'm always glad to come back home. I have had no service issues. I did have to change out my filters under the sink but that is expected. I would recommend this company to others.

The house I purchased has a DuPure under sink filter. For $15 I was able to get an Omnipure compatible Q-Series non-valved head, and filters for that are about $20-25 a pop. The conversion is 4 screws to swap the part out of the bracket, it was no sweat. The site I used to procure replacement head and filter was purewater4u.com.
